Smoking is only permitted in designated smoking areas present outside the terminal building. You will not be able to smoke or vape once you pass throug the security check point, if anyone want to smoke before there flight they need to head toward the designated smoking areas outside the terminal.
As according to British Laws, it is prohibited to smoke inside an enclosed area; therefore, you cannot smoke at the LHR airport once you enter the terminal buildings. You cannot smoke inside the airport if you have a connecting flight. You have to exit and go through the security checks to get to the departure lounge.

Heathrow Smoking Area Terminal 1
Terminal 1 of Heathrow Airport is not operational and No Smoking areas is present over here.
Heathrow Smoking Area Terminal 2
Smoking Area Heathrow Terminal 2 is present near Gate A1 and is still operational it is just 1 min walking distance from World Duty free.
Heathrow Smoking Area Terminal 3
When Terminal 3 was refurbished between 1987 and 1990 Terminal 3 consist of Smoking Cage in transit area but in year 2019 Smoking Cage was removed. So now there is No Smoking Area inside Heathrow Terminal 3. The only smoking area is outside entrance/exit.

Smoking Area Heathrow Terminal 4 is present after security Check for the Valentino store between gates 6b and 7 you can see clear sign marked for Terminal 2 Smoking Area then take the lift or escalator to go down to level 1 and follow the signs to the smoking area which is present behind sliding doors. And in case you want to smoke Before security there are clearly marked pointers which will take you to the smoking areas outside departures and arrivals.
Heathrow Smoking Area Terminal 5
Smoking Area Heathrow Terminal 5 Smoking is not allowed inside Terminal 5 of Heathrow Airport, If anyone have a connecting flight from another terminal then only there is possibility to smoke at designated smoking areas located outside the terminal. Although Duty Free Cigarettes store is present near Gate A11 but no area is specified for smoking inside the terminal 5.
